Barrages (Kanater) was founded in 1335 and is considered as the oldest in the region. It's a crucial element that BECT had to consider during the urban planning and regional development for the area. Developing Shebin El Kanater is part of a regional urban development project for the Egyptian General Organization of Physical Planning (GOPP).
In cooperation with Sogreah Middle East, BECT designed maps and urban development strategies for Shebein El Kanater land area of 3 million m2 (800 acres). The implementation of traffic master planning, population growth forecasting, infrastructure engineering evaluation and other important elements incorporated to the urban planning of the area were included in the study.
